issue nine : here comes the night

Would you believe it, another review about skincare best served at night? Well, it is our Here Come’s The Night theme…so I’m not sure what else you’re expecting! Right, let’s crack on and get into my review of Supermood Holistic Beauty’s Beauty Sleep collection. I have been trialling these products in my personal capacity since May and have really been enjoying them (otherwise you wouldn’t be reading a review about them, now would you?). This luxury Finnish brand was founded in 2014 by model and entrepreneur, Anna Kukkohovi. There are three ranges – Ego Boost, Youth Glo and Beauty Sleep. All are bursting with premium quality eco-certified ingredients that support the skin. I really resonated with the philosophy of the brand too. One in which the products are designed to deliver a holistic approach to beauty by supporting your wellbeing, feeding your gut and of course, nourishing your skin. Perhaps I was even more drawn to this innovative range because we have been working hard behind the scenes here at Untainted HQ and are just about to launch Untainted Beauté – Holistic Beauty Services, At Home (provided you live in London).

The key ingredient running through the Beauty Sleep range is Sea Fennel Stem Cells. This high-tech, bio-marine derived organic ingredient has shown significant improvements in skin smoothness and uneven skin tones. It also helps to repair and protect the skin, working its magic throughout the night. No wonder it’s popping up all over the shop as a new ‘wonder ingredient’. I also like that all the products in this range are suitable for all skin types and age ranges..however, the pinkness of it all doesn’t make it all that appealing to the masculine persuasion – or anyone who isn’t into pink! But I assure you, the products are dreamy…whatever your idea of a dreamboat is…

I’ve always been more partial to a cream cleanser – mostly because I hate having to use cotton pads to wipe away the product. I’m wash and splash/dash kind of gal. Admittedly, not being a big reader of instructions, the first few times I tried it, I used it more as a biophase oil makeup remover. Turns out this clever formulation is indeed what it says on the bottle… a facewash! You activate the phases by shaking the bottle for about 30 – 60 seconds so that the molecules stay bubbling together. Then apply it to damp skin and massage away the day, and the dirt. I like that Supermood recommends that you should pay extra attention to the pressure points in your face while doing this…adding another layer to the holistic approach to this product.

This is a lightweight, creamy-textured serum. I absolutely love the smell of these products. They smell sweet and ‘powdery’ – if I may use that a smell description? It does take a few moments for the serum to sink in, but a little goes a long way and it instantly leaves the skin looking and feeling more hydrated. If you accidentally use to much, I find that pressing it into the skin helps it absorb faster and you get an extra little face massage in the process. I like that the formulation is suitable to use around even the most sensitive areas of the face. It can be used on its own or layered under the rest of the line. If I am travelling and only have limited space, this is what I take with me.

There’s no denying that this little bottle comes with a hefty price tag. At £443.33 for 100ml’s. Don’t worry, you’re only buying 15ml. One pump is more than sufficient to treat both eyes so a little goes a long way. I love the instant refreshing sensation I feel around my eyes when I apply this product. It’s as if you can feel it working – and it keeps working throughout the night. See, I promised you skincare so easy you could do it in your sleep…and I like delivering on my promises. As with any product that you apply to the delicate area around your eyes, be sure to gently pat it in, so as not to drag or aggravate the skin.

I am undecided on the whether we need both a day and a night cream. Some skin experts (I am not a skin expert) say they serve different functions, others insist it’s just a marketing ploy to have a day and a night cream. None the less, in the interest of trialling a range, I gave this Youth Restoring Night Cream a go and I quite like it. I don’t know if it has made my skin anymore youthful in appearance, but I do enjoy applying at it night because it absorbs quickly and like the rest of the range, smells amazing and feels nourishing. And one lucky reader stands the chance to win their very own bottle worth £59. That’s right! I’m giving away one full size (unused, of course!) bottle of this night cream for you to try out for yourself. How does that sound?

The pillow spray is the final product I have personally tried from the collection (which also includes bamboo pillowcases and collagen food supplement capsules). While I wouldn’t spend £43 on a pillow spray, if you are someone that does enjoy these little luxuries and is prepared to splash the cash, then this one is a winner. It has a grounding herbal aroma that supports calming the mind and body before bed.
