issue ten : the icons & iconoclasts

I’ve decided to do something a little different for this issue. I’m sure only that hearing my opinion’s of iconic and iconoclastic products can become somewhat tiresome and one dimensional, so I have enlisted the help of my most trusted peers to offer their recommendations too. The first recommendation comes from a long-time supporter of Untainted Magazine, Sina. She is the founder of Genuine Selection, an online beauty store based in Frankfurt, Germany. Genuine Selection offers a curated range of the most iconic natural and organic skincare and cosmetics from across the globe. Sina has nominated the award-winning Lena Wild Harmony Rescue Mask into the untainted alternative hall of fame. I was kindly sent a bottle to trial myself and I can concur that this mask delivers on its promises. I’m a bit of a lazy masker, to be honest – but every now and then when my skin decides it needs some TLC – and like an impatient, insolent child makes its neglect known, I scurry to pacify it. This gentle but powerful mask helps to soothe and calm my skin and restore it to its usual happy, serene state. I asked Sina why she feels this product deserves this acclaim, and this is what she had to say:

In Action

“To me, the Harmony Rescue Mask is an iconic product because it is such a versatile and super effective product. I not only use it as a face mask but also as a spot treatment whenever my skin is breaking out. And if my skin tends to be on the drier side, I simply add a nourishing face oil to it. After I use this mask my skin always looks more calm and glowy.”

Sina, Genuine Selection

I love the environmental commitment and declaration that is upfront and centre on their product pages.

*We are passionate about reducing the plastic burden from our planet, therefore our bottles are made of glass. We also consider transportation footprint, so we choose local European suppliers. Our paper boxes and labels are 100% cotton, it is a byproduct of the fashion industry. To maintain your bottle looking new, please avoid touching the label with wet hands. For packing and deliveries, we only use recyclable and biodegradable materials. After you have used up your product, please recycle!

This statement adds to the reason why they belong on the virtual pages of Untainted Magazine.

I’ve estimated that you can get approximately 13 full-face applications from a single bottle, based on my use – which is a heaped teaspoon per serving. Yelena, the brand’s founder and formulator suggests 10 – 15 applications depending on how thick you like your mask and how long you have to linger wearing it! Yelena says “…if someone only has a few minutes for the treatment, a thin layer would do the job. However, if you have around 10 min to indulge in a treatment, then a thicker layer is recommended. This way the mask will keep from drying out for longer and skin will receive more benefits thanks to the prolonged exposure time.”

The lovely clear apothecary style glass jar is great to reuse in a myriad of different ways once you’ve finished the product – from spice jars in your kitchen to vases on your windowsill. As usual, only purchase new beauty products – iconic or otherwise – if you really need them and know you will use them to the bitter end.

Tips

Keep a mist hydrosol close to hand to make sure the clay doesn’t dry out before you remove it. Also great as a spot treatment and gentle exfoliator.
