Sustainable Lifestyle Awards

Meet the winners of the beauty & skincare categories

issue ten : the icons & iconoclasts

By Khandiz Joni

This year saw the first foray of the Sustainable Lifestyle Awards into the awards scene. They are the first awards of their kind to recognise and celebrate brands that embody style and substance in equal measure – a balance that is obviously very important to us at Untainted Magazine also. This UK award event aims to shine the spotlight on the conscientious creators who are dedicated to making beautiful lifestyle products that bring positive impacts to our society and the environment. I had the privilege of judging a number of categories but naturally, it is the Beauty and Skincare categories that I’m most delighted to tell you about here on the virtual pages of Untainted Magazine. As part of the prize, we offered the winners and runner up a feature on Untainted and I couldn’t be more excited to tell you a bit about them . . .

Best In Show

Beauty Brand of the Year

Evolve Organic Beauty was the winner of the ‘Beauty Brand of the Year’ award. My fellow judges and I felt that Evolve’s commitment to building a brand that is not only aesthetically pleasing but that also truly upholds positive social and environmental values embody the changes that we need to see in the world of untainted beauty today. Consideration into offering a comprehensive range of skin, body and hair care products that speak to all ages, races and genders made it a sure winner.

Hyaluronic Serum 200

Each Evolve Beauty product is hand-crafted in their small, carbon-neutral studio in Hertfordshire, England. All the products are vegan-friendly, cruelty-free and made in small batches with natural ingredients sourced as close to home as possible, to ensure the highest level of freshness.

They were also named Skincare Brand of the Year Runner Up!

Iconic Product

Evolve’s Hyaluronic Serum 200 is their bestseller, and in their opinion, their most iconic product. I love it too and it has been a kit staple since I tried it a few years back.

Skincare Brand of the Year

Beauty Kitchen took home the title for the ‘Skincare Brand of the Year’.

The judge’s reasoning behind this award was based on the innovative and bold steps the brand has made to remain true to their ethos and deliver a fully sustainable brand.

Beauty Kitchen has reimagined the supply chain from a consumable one to a durable refillable one – making it affordable to consumers and providing a much wider reach to customers who are often left out of the natural and organic beauty offerings because of the luxury price points of many of these brands. Their return, refill, repeat initiative is fantastic, making it easy for the customer to reduce their waste. As well as environmentally-conscious packaging, they’re certified B Corp, donate a portion of sales to causes aligned with their business, and of course, their products use 100% natural ingredients and are certified and traceable from cradle to cradle.

Abyssinan Oil Handbag Beauty Balm

While the judges felt that their aesthetic and branding was not as strong as other competitor brands on the market; they felt that because of Beauty Kitchen’s iconoclastic and forward-thinking approach to being a sustainable business with carefully considered initiatives throughout their value chain, they were deserving of the title.

Iconic Product

This Handbag Beauty Balm is touted as their founder’s favourite. Its scent is “inspired by the smell of walking through a wildflower meadow.”

Beauty Brand of the Year, Runner Up

Tropic Skincare has been a leading vegan beauty brand and they seem to just keep improving. Having recently launched their innovative refillable colour palettes – with interchangeable trays and pans meaning you can curate your own, iconic look in just one sleek palette. The trays themselves are refillable too, meaning you don’t have to throw away the whole palette when you have hit the pan on one shade and the pans themselves are aluminium so are infinitely recyclable. You can choose from base products to eyeshadows to highlighter and there are now 15.9 billion combinations! Tropic also now offer refillable serums too. Their commitment to the environment is commendable. Certified carbon negative and with a social impact focus on helping to give education to children in Cambodia, Nepal and Myanmar. The products are made in the UK, without harmful chemicals and sustainably sourced.

All of their products are recyclable too, including their signature paper packaging with bold, eye-catching exotic prints. Their reasonable RRP means they are also more price inclusive, which is great to see. While I am personally not a fan of multi-level marketing, which this brand is built on, they certainly have a loyal following.

Tropic Skincare ticks the boxes as a beauty brand delivering both in style and sustainability. The products work well, and the judges were impressed with their 360-degree approach to a sustainable future.

They were also named Vegan Brand of the Year.

Iconic Product

Created to boost your skin’s natural defences, Tropic’s Super Greens Nutrient Boost Oil is packed with vitamins and nutrients that help fight the effects of everyday pollution. Plus, you can also keep your skincare staple topped up with the Super Greens Refill Bottle.
