As a makeup artist - as an artist - colour is integral to my very being. Aside from the face value of colour and my natural (and expected) affinity to and for it, there is another side that truly fascinates me. I have a long history with colour and its relationships with our senses. All of them. Seeing, feeling, tasting and, even hearing. This amorous entanglement is something I want to explore more. And what better place than on the pages of UNTAINTED?
Tactile Colour was actually the very first title I wrote down for a theme idea when I dreamed up UNTAINTED nearly three years ago now, but for whatever reason, it has taken me until the eleventh issue to bring it to life. The last ten issues have certainly touched on this topic, but I am looking forward to diving in and exploring the intricacies of colour from a different lens.
In this issue, we will serve up the delightful and daring visual narratives you have come to expect from us, including some from new collaborators (which we are very excited about).
These virtual pages will be bursting with unbridled, bold and unapologetic colour to inspire and delight you (no doubt, with a side of masterful puns for good measure). It will have all the usual reviews and interviews, but it’s the more nuanced ideas around race, identity, texture, ingredients and the impact of colour on our wellbeing that I am most looking forward to exploring - through my own experiences and in collaboration and conversation with others.
I hope that this issue delivers all the colours of your dreams...and more.
