We’ve heard it before and we will hear it again, and again. Beauty comes from the inside. But do you truly understand how and why the choices we make about what we put into our bodies can affect what we see outside our bodies?
I have recently started learning about the benefits of kefir (pronounced keh-feer). A fascinating enzyme-rich grain filled with a host of naturally occurring probiotics, not to mention all the other essential vitamins and minerals like proteins, vitamin B, vitamin K, folic acid, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus (among others).
Originally discovered in Russia (it seems the Russians have a bunch of clever beauty practices I am only just learning about. Ever heard of cryotherapy, aka ice therapy?) by shepherds of the Caucasus Mountains many moons ago. After this accidental discovery that lead the men and women of the mountain feeling healthier and stronger from drinking the fermented grains and goats milk, the secret spread across the land. Scientists have obviously done a whole heap of research since then and the findings have been nothing but miraculous.
This wonder food is more commonly known as a fermented milky drink, closely resembling yoghurt. However, there is also a water kefir, which is a yellow crystal… which is great news if you’re lactose intolerant or vegan… or simply don’t like the taste of sour milk!
The health benefits seem to be endless, but in short, the potent nature of the micro- and macro-organisms found in these grains, positively affect your gut health, by regulating the bad bacteria that is found in our stomachs thanks to our modern lifestyles. And guess what an unhappy gut means? Yep…unhappy skin!
So now you see how including a kefir a day can keep unhappy skin at bay.
