issue five : a feast for gluttony
Mua, Ioana Oprea used untainted beauty brands, fresh raspberries and an onion, for tears.
Reality, it seems, is not a flat plane, but has as many veils as an onion has skins.

And an onion, for tears.
UNTAINTED X MASTERED BRIEF
The brief set for the Makeup:Mastered alumni was to create a beauty editorial of 4 – 6 images around the theme of: “A Feast for Gluttony” and create the looks using only edible ingredients/products.
They were asked to use what was already in their kits and kitchens in order to step outside of their comfort zone & experiment with makeup unconventionally.
The objective was not to buy more stuff, but use up what we already have and begin to think differently about the ingredients in our beauty products.

The most unusual, but at the same time the coolest thing about this photoshoot was using raw products. This was my first time going to the local market where I usually do my groceries and buying makeup “products” straight from the fruit or vegetables counter.
The challenge was getting the model into the mind setup that this was not your usual gold and glitter glamorous photoshoot, with the normal make-up routine but a natural and simple setup that involved working in a studio flooded by onion smell, where the make-up artist and the photographer were chopping fruits and veggies on the make-up set.
The whole situation became more relaxed though when the first photos came out and everyone was mesmerised. This definitely will not be my last project using mother-nature as my makeup store. I loved it and felt so back-to-basics and natural.
Photographer and concept collaborator, Simona Naciadis, added:
The idea came to us instantly because for some time, we have wanted to do a photo shoot with a theme that would focuse on emotions with only the help of the things we have in our kitchen.
We imagined both the bitter tears of the onion and the sweet lips of the raspberries as a comparison of two faces of life: sad and cheerful.
In the execution of the concept some problems arose when the first onion did not work and no tears were coming from the model so we had to use two more which ended up in the whole team crying their eyes out.
Fortunately the shoot me made so very proud of our work and efforts .
