We do some “interpretive dance” with Ye olde superstitions in this exclusive beauty editorial.
“A widely held traditional belief that is now thought to be unscientific or incorrect.”
Superstitions date back to when man first began to roam the earth. With a deep rooted belief that nature, animals and other objects were directly linked to the spirit world, man began to find ways to placate the spirits and take control of his fate.
It was women, however, that were at the forefront of keeping these stories alive (hence the phrase “An old wives tale). Passing them down from generation to generation. Each corner of the world has its own interpretations and superstitions and it’s in these difference that there is unity…for every corner of the world has their own set of omens, talismans and remedies for our fate.
The winds of change
Pulled faces shall remain.
They say that if the wind changes while you’re pulling a face, that is how it shall stay.
They say that if you cannot fall asleep, someone is dreaming about you.
change is coming.
They say that if a yellow butterfly lands on you, change is coming.
Lucky or unlucky?
They say that black cats are the reincarnation of witches and that if a black cat crosses your path it will take your luck away with it. They also say that if an unknown black cat appears, it’s a lucky omen. You decide.
To give is to receive.
They say never to give gloves as a gift, at least not without receiving a gift in return.
They say that if your right palm is itchy, money is coming your way. If it’s your left, you’re destined to lose money.
They say that an awkward silence is a space to hear angels.
A red warning.
They say that you should avoid wearing red if there is a storm, for if lightning strikes, it will find you first.
They say that a painted lip wards off the devil. We say the redder the better.
They say that wearing a veil on your wedding day protects you from jealous evil spirits.
